As Geelong prepare to take on North Melbourne in tonight’s cut throat semi final, perhaps it’s worth reflecting on what is arguably football’s greatest ever finals finish – the 1994 preliminary final between these two clubs.
Ablett had been held well by Michael Martin all day, and despite Geelong leading for the majority of the second half, North Melbourne, due to Wayne Carey playing one of his best ever matches, managed to level the scores at 103 apiece with only minutes to play.
With two seconds left on the clock, Ablett took the mark in the goal square to propel Geelong into their third Grand Final in six years.
